You've landed in Brussels — for work, for a partner, for the EU bubble — and you're a musician. Maybe you're a classically trained pianist from the UK who needs somewhere to record. Maybe you're a singer-songwriter from the US looking for a place to work on your next project. Maybe you're a content creator who needs professional audio for your video work.
The challenge is always the same: finding a professional studio that doesn't require you to speak perfect French, doesn't lock you into a rigid hourly booking, and doesn't feel like a factory. That's a short list in Brussels. But it exists.
Brussels as a music city: what most people miss
Brussels punches above its weight musically. Home to a dense network of conservatoires, music schools, and a thriving independent scene, the city has produced internationally recognised classical, jazz, and electronic artists. The Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth, Flagey, BOZAR, and dozens of smaller venues create a rich performance ecosystem.
What's historically been missing is accessible infrastructure for independent artists — particularly those who aren't native French or Dutch speakers. Most professional studios in Brussels are geared towards commercial productions with substantial budgets. The gap between the academy and the independent artist has been real and documented.
That's changing. And Jardin Musical is a significant part of why.
What makes Jardin Musical different
Jardin Musical is a non-profit (ASBL) recording studio and training centre based at 62 Quai aux Briques in central Brussels. It operates in French, Dutch, and English — genuinely, not as an afterthought. The team speaks all three fluently.
The model is built around two core pillars that work together:
- Audiovisual Masterclasses — certified training programmes delivered by active industry professionals, covering sound recording, mixing, multicam video capture, lighting and post-production workflow. Completing Level 1 (2 days) makes you fully autonomous in the studio.
- Flexible studio credits — a prepaid credit system that gives you access to the studio, concerts, residencies and technical services. Credits never expire. No minimum commitment.
Quick facts at a glance
The credit system: how it works in practice
This is the part that surprises most international artists the most. Instead of booking by the hour and watching the clock, you buy credits in advance and use them at your own pace.
1 credit = 2 hours of studio time. But credits can also be used for concerts, residencies, piano tuning, and additional technical services. It's a single currency for your entire creative practice at the studio.
Credit packs — price per credit
Note: A refundable deposit (300€) is required at registration — it is returned to you in full at the end of your membership. This is standard practice for community studio access, not an additional fee.
The Steinway question
For pianists specifically, this is the headline detail: Jardin Musical has a Steinway & Sons concert grand piano, regularly tuned, available for both sessions and masterclasses. In Brussels, access to a Steinway at this price point is effectively unparalleled. Classical pianists, jazz players, and composers who work extensively at the keyboard will find this a significant advantage.
The instrument is treated with the care it deserves — professional tuning before every significant session, and a team that understands what it means to work at this level.
Getting started as an international artist
The process is straightforward:
- Register online at studio.jardinmusical.org/fr/inscription — the form is multilingual, and the team will respond in your preferred language.
- Complete the Level 1 Masterclass (strongly recommended — it's the unlock that makes you fully independent in the studio. 2 days, certified, credits included).
- Book your first session using your credits. Arrange through the team, who will work with your schedule.

Join the programme →The community dimension
One thing that doesn't show up in a spec sheet: the network. Jardin Musical's members are active professional musicians across jazz, classical, folk, electronic, and audiovisual production. The studio certification system creates a shared language — Level 1 certified members can work together without friction, share technical knowledge, and collaborate on projects.
For an expat artist still building their Brussels network, this community access is often the most valuable thing the membership provides.
For institutions and ensembles
If you're visiting Brussels as part of an ensemble, a music school programme, or an institutional project, Jardin Musical offers bespoke institutional packages — shared credit pools, supervised sessions, and negotiated rates from 20 users upwards.
